Utility Shocks TX Couple with $100 Grand Charge

What happens when your electric company tries to bill you for more than $100,000?

That's what happened to one Texas couple who were disputing a previous month's unusually high bill of $820.65. Apparently, someone didn't like that very much; the following month, they opened their TXU bill to find they were told tehy owed $103,695! When the couple called customer service, they of course got someone in India, who smugly told them that he understood things were bad in the U.S. these days, but that they still had to pay their bill. It was eventually resolved, but it serves as just another testament to the fruit of businesses that are often forced to cut corners because they cannot afford to operate here as well as those which simply are poorly run with little concern for their customers. TXU has been critized quite a bit already for the latter, among other things, so in this case, it's probably a draw.

Why is someone in India taking customer service calls for a Texas utility??? Going to hell in a hand-basket comes to mind.

With identity theft on the rise as the fastest growing crime with real over all damaged promised to our economy overall and possibly our political system (re: blackmail), it forces one to wonder where this utility's and legislators' heads are allowing it.
