YouTube Musician of the Week: Blonde Redhead

This three-member alternative band has received more notoriety than earlier YTMOTW picks, but the trio deserves it. Blonde Redhead’s23” (below) is one of those songs you simply want to play over and over. The song  is beautiful and breathy and driving; erudite but raw and uncontrived. Put this song on your favorite mix CD or MP3 player for the car, pick a nice, overcast day and put the top down, turn on the fog lamps, and take a cruise in the country with 23 on shortlist repeat. This song has alternative attitude we love to hear. If you like Imogen Heap (formerly of Frou Frou), Matson Belle or some older Goldfrapp, you won't be able to stop listening.

Of course, the fact that lead singer Kazu Makino is a fellow horse-lover (despite having been severely trampled awhile back) is also a winsome bit of trivia for Blogbat; her equestrian predisposition is also quickly apparent upon visiting the band’s website.

Blonde Redhead is comprised of Kazu Makino (usually lead on vocal) and twin brothers Amedeo and Simone Pace. Their most recent album “23” was released in the United States earlier this month and is being released in Europe today, the 23rd, oddly enough.

Nice. I'm not familiar with this group. Thanks for sharing. Hubby has picked up the guitar again (after years of not playing). Seems we can't get in the car without hooking the Ipod up. Sometimes it's too much. I long for a quiet, peaceful drive.
