YouTube Musician of the Week: Rachel Correll

This week Blogbat highlights unsigned 21 year old North Carolina native Rachel Correll (rackyl). Rachel's fantastic voice and songwriting coupled with her stylistic perks (read: her nearly-omnipresent Dalmatian sidekick “Arabella” – who even has her own MySpace profile – or background cat, and the cozy but energetic feel of Rachel's music) almost seem a balancing counterpoint to the usually deep lyrics in her music, whether it be one of her more usual Taylor Swift covers or one of her own.

Featured below is one of Rachel’s originals: “Why I Said Goodbye”, posted on YouTube 14 April. While Arabella is curiously missing and the acoustics fall short of offering the listener the chance to fully appreciate Rachel’s voice, it’s still a great listen:

This Song” is another one of Rachel's originals, first featured on YouTube 19 March; it begins with Rachel and Arabella exchanging a ready, knowing glance as if both had equal parts in the act, followed as Rachel begins to sing with Arabella (who no doubt knows this song by heart) sniffing the guitar, looking curiously at the camera, periodically checking in with Rachel... and periodically going after an itch. If anyone ever signs Rachel, she'll certaily have to tour with the pooch.
