Africa Watch: Togo Election Violence, Elephants & A Review

More strife in Togo: elections turn violent at some polling stations as election day drew to a close Sunday, according to IOL. It is currently unknown how many had been injured during the riots that were quickly dispersed by police. There are a few rumored deaths resulting as well however. There was no report of any violence however in the Togo capital of Lomé.

The elections were being held after Togo's president Gnassingbe Eyadema died, ending nearly 40 years of power for the leader. Trouble began last night when opposing parties began accusing each other of vote fraud and counting irregularities (it’s not known if Al Gore will demand a recount).

Elephants Becoming Problematic: South Africa is beginning to suffer one of those unusual problems where they now have too much of a good thing: elephants, endangered across the continent have been very busy it seems in South Africa and now threaten to crowd each other and everyone else living in parts of the country. According to a local television station, officials are currently working on a plan which may include exporting some elephants to parts of the continent where poaching and disease have caused the native pachyderm populations to dwindle. That plan is under careful scrutiny however ever since the Zimbabwe independence day celebrations in which several elephants were killed by park rangers and eaten by locals.

Movie Review: France Watcher Blog has posted a review of Hotel Rwanda which is worth your inspection if you haven’t already seen the movie.
